Year 6

Teachers : Mrs Bridges (6B), Mrs Welch (6W)
Teaching Assistant:  Mrs Gibbon

In our writing lessons we will be using a range of texts, as well as stimuli such as images and film, to inspire children’s writing, which will all be related to Shakespeare (in particular the plays Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for our new topic. During our reading lessons, we will be focussing on the children’s ability to understand a wide range of different types of texts. We will give the children lots of fun learning opportunities where they will be interpreting art work, animations and song lyrics.

In maths, the children will be covering multiplication and division and solving a range of problems in a variety of ways, building on various skills along the way. In arithmetic sessions, we will be covering core skills.

PE: Class 6B

6B We will be doing PE on a Thursday and Friday. Please could you ensure that you child has their PE kit with them on these days. It would be extremely useful if children could bring in a pair of gym pumps and a pair of trainers.

PE: Class 6W

6W will be doing PE on a Thursday and Friday. Please could you ensure that you child has their PE kit with them on these days. It would be extremely useful if children could bring in a pair of gym pumps and a pair of trainers.

Learning Diaries and Keeping in Touch

Your child will be expected to still record their homework, spellings and reading in their diary. This is a fantastic resource for the children to use, but also key for parent and teacher communication. Please continue to read with your child, at least 3 times per week and record this in their diary with further comments.

The children will be asked and expected to have learnt their parts for the musical in their own time. Please help your child practise any songs and/or acting that they are involved in.

Supporting your child at home

*Go on Times Table Rock Stars
*reading 3 x a week
*learning year 5 and 6 keywords spelling

Attendance and Punctuality

Good attendance and punctuality is essential to help your child achieve the best they possibly can.
Every week the attendance cup is awarded to the class with the best attendance – hopefully our class can win the cup lots of times this coming term!
We will also be awarded points in the Punctuality League. Let’s see if we can beat last year’s score.

Children can achieve reward stamps for trying hard with their work! Every time they collect 50 stamps, they are awarded with a certificate.

We aim to teach the children about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. With this in mind, our fantastic chef provides a range of healthy snacks. Please pay £2.00 per week to the class teacher if you would like your child to receive a snack and drink.

Uniform and Jewellery:

Please ensure children wear the correct school uniform, including black shoes and plain socks. Jewellery must not be worn. Please label all items so that they can be easily reacquainted with children if they are mislaid.
