In our literacy lessons we will be using a range of texts, as well as stimuli such as images and film, to inspire children’s writing. The children’s literacy skills will be built upon, and applied, in topic lessons too.
In numeracy the children will be covering a range of topics such as shapes, handling data and measures, calculating and securing number facts.
This term, our topic is ‘Earth, Wind and Fire’. Throughout the next few weeks we will be writing hurricane poems, as well as a biography about the founders of Gandy’s, Rob and Paul. The children will learn about the water cycle, as well as causes and effects of natural disasters.
Towards the end of the half term, we will begin our very exciting Shakespeare topic!
Reading regularly and questioning the children about the story and characters will help improve their reading. Asking the children to make predictions and inferences is a higher level skill which measures their understanding of the book.
Your child also has access to a paid SPaG website where different tasks will be set to consolidate learning in lessons.
Please refer to the homework diaries for their individual logins.
There are a number of ways to help your child improve in maths. Times tables games, such as TTRS, can be fun and tables are essential to understanding many areas of maths. It is essential for them to know all of their times tables up to 12 x 12. Involve them when discussing cost, time, distance or any other matters involving money.
