Year 6

Teachers : Mrs Bridges (6B), Miss Kinsman (6K)
Teaching Assistant:  Mrs Wall

If your child is required to isolate or is unable to attend school for an extended period of time, please call the office on 0121 675 3573
and arrange a telephone meeting with Mrs Bridges (6B) or Miss Kinsman (6K) to discuss your child’s learning.

Our virtual school remains open so you can view learning from last year – you can see all of the previous lessons for all of the year groups. The materials found on the virtual school pages may be used by any child for additional learning if pupils are keen to extend their learning at home, or as extra support. If pupils are unable to attend school due to prolonged illness or isolation, please arrange to talk to us and we will direct you to relevant virtual learning. CLICK HERE TO VISIT

In our writing lessons we will be using a range of texts, as well as stimuli such as images and film, to inspire children’s writing, with a link to our topic: The Tudors.
During our reading lessons, we will be focussing on the children’s ability to understand a wide range of different types of texts and most of these will relate to our topic.

In maths, the children will be covering place value and number (with a focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), solving a wide range of problems. They will also have arithmetic lessons once a week, which will focus on their core skills.

Learning Diaries and Keeping in Touch

Your child will be expected to still record their homework, spellings and reading in their diary. This is a fantastic resource for the children to use, but also key for parent and teacher communication. Please continue to read with your child, at least 3 times per week and record this in their diary with further comments.

This half term we really want the children to focus on three key areas: reading, spelling and times tables.

We expect the children to know all of their times tables by year 6 and in order to keep maintaining this, the children need to go on Times Table Rock Stars 3 times a week for a minimum of 10 minutes each time.

For reading, the children can read their AR book or a book/text of their choice to themselves or an adult/sibling at home and then record this in their learning diaries – this then needs to be signed off by an adult at the end of the week.

Each week, the children will write 5 of their keyword spellings in their learning diary (checked by an adult in school) for them to practise and learn at home, ready for the following week where they will be tested on them.

If you would like your child to walk home alone, with a friend or meet you at a certain place, please write a note letting Mrs Bridges or Miss Kinsman know, including if this is an everyday occurrence or just on certain days.

Attendance and Punctuality

Good attendance and punctuality is essential to help your child achieve the best they possibly can.
Every week the attendance cup is awarded to the class with the best attendance – hopefully our class can win the cup lots of times this coming term!
We will also be awarded points in the Punctuality League. Let’s see if we can beat last year’s score.

Children can achieve reward stamps for trying hard with their work! Every time they collect 50 stamps, they are awarded with a certificate.

uniform and jewellery

Please ensure children wear the correct school uniform, including black shoes and plain socks. Jewellery must not be worn. Please label all items so that they can be easily reacquainted with children if they are mislaid. This includes the inside of coats, shoes, hats, gloves and scarves.

We aim to teach the children about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. With this in mind, our fantastic chef provides a range of healthy snacks. Snack for juniors is charged at £2.00 per week.
To pay for your child's snack, please log in to their Scopay account. Please speak to the office if you do not have your Scopay log in details
